CUSTOM OAK STAIRCASE WITH GLASS BALUSTRADE
LOCATION: Bognor Regis
PROJECT TYPE: Staircase & Components
MATERIALS: Oak, Glass
CLIENT: Multi-Turn had the pleasure of working with TV and theatre sensations Danny Mac and Carley Stenson as they embarked on a journey to create their dream home.
PROJECT BRIEF
Returning to the bungalow where Danny was raised, he and his wife, Carley, were in the process of remodelling to transform the family home.
With no option to extend, the couple wanted to maximise light and space while creating a consistent free-flowing layout. In the hallway, this meant opening up the space as much as possible with a custom oak staircase that incorporated glass and detail to give guests a glimpse of what they could expect from the rest of the home.
OUR SOLUTION
Because we were working with a relatively tight space, it was important that we visited the home to gather measurements for the stairs to ensure they would fit first time. Once this was done, we worked closely with Danny and Carley, alongside their award-winning interior designer, Gina Everett from Create Perfect, to conceptualise a design that would meet their requirements.
To enhance the exposed side of the stairs, Danny and Carley wanted to accentuate the treads whilst also incorporating glass to allow light to flow through the space. We came up with a unique design to achieve this - creating a stepped cut string effect with toughened glass balustrade that was shaped to follow the treads and place focus on the stunning detail.
Large curtail and bullnose feature steps were added to give width at the base of the stairs; which also help to guide you around the newel post and into the rest of the home when coming down, and invite and draw you in when going up.
The remainder of the staircase has been kept simple with light oak treads and handrails to complement the style that flows through the interior.
The final flourish to this custom oak staircase came in the form of the large landing balcony which has quickly become Danny and Carley's favourite feature. We added the toughened glass balustrade so that this area would not only overlook the open-plan living space below but would also flood the landing and stairs with even more light.
Danny and Carley visited the Multi-Turn HQ during the design of their custom oak staircase.
