The challenge
The client wanted a T-shaped staircase to create a striking first impression in the entrance hall of a high-end home. It needed to feel grand, but not overpower the space. It also had to sit seamlessly alongside the existing walnut hardwood flooring, so the finished result looked intentional and unified, not like an afterthought.
Our solution
We started with the timber. Our designers selected a warm, rich hardwood that complemented the walnut flooring in both colour and character, so the staircase and floor read as part of the same design.
The client wanted a continuous handrail that flowed naturally from the bottom of the stair upwards. We designed extra-large wreathed volutes at the starting newel to give the handrail real presence and create a focal point at the foot of the stairs.
To add subtle refinement without over-decorating, we finished the bottom step with curved bowed nosing and added scotia beading to the treads. These details catch the light and add depth, but they do not fight with the architecture.
The result
The finished staircase is elegant, solid, and built to last. More importantly, it fits the entrance hall as if it had always been there. The bespoke detailing leaves a lasting impression on visitors and makes the home feel inviting, luxurious, and one of a kind.
