STAIR SUPPLIER FOR PROPERTY DEVELOPERS
LOCATION: London
PROJECT TYPE: Staircase & Handrail
STYLE: Manor
MATERIALS: Oak & Softwood
CLIENT: Ethos Construction, providing 6 high end plots with 3 flights of stairs each.
PROJECT BRIEF
Our client approached us with an ambitious and challenging design concept for 6 high-end plots: 3 stacked flights of stairs arranged directly above one another, but with no visible structural supports. This project required not only innovative engineering but also a refined aesthetic to align with the client's vision.
Using a mixture of Oak and Softwood, the goal was to create a sleek, contemporary staircase with a floating appearance that would seamlessly integrate into a modern aesthetic. This vision called for a precise balance of structural integrity and refined craftsmanship.
OUR SOLUTION
To achieve the floating effect our client envisioned without visible supports, we initially considered using cranked hidden steel supports. However, due to the specific layout and positioning of the winders, this approach wasn’t feasible. Instead, we developed a unique design where the newel posts interlocked to provide the structural support needed, allowing each flight to “float” without additional posts extending down to the flight below.
This innovative solution achieved the open feel which the client desired, enhancing the modern aesthetic and sense of space in the passageway. To further elevate the design, we incorporated wide oak “shelf” steps on the bottom flight that tied seamlessly with the oak treads throughout the staircase.
