Here at Multi-Turn, we are seeing more and more customers who are looking to invest in beautiful, bespoke glass stairs for theirs or their customer’s home. And it’s no surprise! Glass has the versatility to complement any home, regardless of its application, and will help to create bright and open spaces.
Why choose glass?
It looks great
The sheer beauty and understated elegance of glass makes it hugely popular amongst people who are looking to add a statement feature to their hallway. From cut strings with glass downstands to stunning spindles, you can easily find a way to add a striking touch to your design.
It enhances natural light
Glass stairs can maximise the flow of natural light that flows through the space and illuminate your surroundings. It can create a bright and welcoming environment, even if the stairwell is in a typically dark or shaded area of the home.
It can give the illusion of more space
The addition of glass balustrades can give the illusion that a space is much larger than it really is – something particularly difficult to achieve with other materials such as wood and metal. Because it is so wonderfully transparent, it makes the perfect finishing touch if you wish to make the most of unobstructed views.
It’s a lasting investment
Glass is often perceived as delicate, but you may be surprised to hear that it’s actually more durable than wood! As well as being widely accepted within building regulations and complying with the necessary loadings required, toughened glass is highly resistant against the everyday knocks and bumps that it may face in a busy home.
What design options are there?
Frameless balustrades are a truly stunning design feature, incorporating toughened structural glass onto each side of the stairs. With this design, there is no need for traditional supports and allows you to think more freely about any features.
A modern take on the traditional staircase feature, glass spindles are a unique and stylish feature. The individual panes can be fixed to the baserail and handrail, removing the need for any brackets to leave you with a seamless finish.
Our bracketed system is a simple and effective way to incorporate glass into your stairs. Larger panes of glass can be fitted to the railings and newel posts with secure stainless steel clamps, leaving a small area of open space around the edges.
Glass downstands can add a contemporary touch to open riser staircases. Not only do they look brilliant, but they also ensure your stairs meet building and safety regulations. In the past, we’ve worked on projects with spot lighting to highlight and reflect the surface.
With the ability to let natural light flood through dark hallways and give traditional homes a modern twist, glass stairs are perfect for lifting any interior space. If you’d like to discuss your design, get in touch with us on 01962 712299 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
